Based on the recommendation of the sub-committee chaired by Architect of the Capitol Duane Mass, the Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission voted unanimously to give its approval to the schematic design proposal prepared by Joseph Kincannon and Kincannon Studios for The Bill of Rights Monument Plaza at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
Mr. Kincannon is widely considered one of the country’s premiere stone carvers and sculptors, including the creation of America’s first monument of The Bill of Rights at the Arizona Capitol. His schematic design proposal for the Oklahoma Capitol is composed of two symmetrical sculptures on opposite sides of the walkway to the Capitol’s east entrance, comprising 14 blocks of interlocking limestone per sculpture. Each sculpture will display the full text of 5 Amendments, and be adorned with a minimum of 10 decorative carvings featuring iconic Oklahoma imagery. When completed, the installation will be the largest display honoring The Bill of Rights in the United States.
